Excursion Ait Bougumez
The High Atlas Central offers a unique cultural and natural experience with fertile valleys, dramatic gorges, and peaks over 3,000m. This 3-day excursion combines stunning landscapes, local Berber hospitality, and guided hiking through remote villages.
Itinerary
- Route: Drive via Sidi Rahal, Demnate, and the natural bridge of Imi n’Ifri. Continue through the Ait Boualli Valley to Ait Bougumez, ending at Agouti village.
- Hike: After lunch, hike to Timiyte village, then ascend to the Sidi Moussa Marabout (2,000m). This historic site, once a granary, offers panoramic views of the valley. Descend to Ikhf n Ighir for an overnight stay in a rural guesthouse.
- Duration: ~5 hours driving, 2.5 hours hiking.
- Departure: Early morning from Ikhf n Ighir.
- Route: Hike through the Ait Imi Valley to the Tizi n Ait Imi Pass (2,905m) via a zigzag path through juniper forests. Climb Igoudamen Summit (3,519m) for breathtaking views of the Mgoun massif and Ait Bougumez Valley.
- Return: Descend via Aguerd n Ouzrou to Ikhf n Ighir.
- Duration: ~9 hours hiking.
- Departure: Post-breakfast, hike through Ait Hkim Valley, passing cultivated fields and pisé (rammed earth) houses.
- Hike: Climb the Adazen ridge, then descend to Ibakliouen to explore dinosaur fossil traces. Picnic lunch included.
- Return: Transfer back to Marrakech (approx. 5 hours).
- Duration: ~5 hours (including driving).
